Cambodia Takes Steps to Boost More Tourism in the New Normal

PHNOM PENH: While some countries in the region have still not opened their borders to foreign tourists, Cambodia has taken another step towards the complete removal of all Covid-19 testing measures for foreign tourists, by taking away the requirement for foreigners to show a negative Covid-19 certification from a PCR test, and stopping the mandatory rapid testing of passengers upon arrival in the Kingdom.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, 16 March, by an official from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry, in accordance with Prime Minister Hun Sen's order, is canceling the requirement for foreign travelers to show a negative PCR test result within 72 hours before arriving in Cambodia. In addition, the Ministry is also taking away the requirement for foreign tourists to undergo rapid testing upon arrival in the Kingdom. This means foreign tourists arriving in Cambodia will no longer face any requirements for testing from Thursday, 17 March onwards.

However, the Ministry still encourages all travelers to take rapid tests by themselves and present a vaccination card upon arrival in Cambodia. Additionally, those who have not been fully vaccinated still have to undergo quarantine for 14 days at a location designated by the Ministry of Health or the relevant authority.

In line with this announcement, the Royal Government of Cambodia has also announced the resumption of Visas on Arrival for all international travelers, whether by air, land or sea.

This is another new step taken by Cambodia in the ‘new normal’ way of life, after fully reopening the country on 1 November 2021.
